Ultimate Frisbee - Bison Style!

Scott and the Bisons have been busy conditioning for the upcoming season. But all work and no play makes Scott a dull boy!, so they took a little break from the more serious stuff and headed outside for a little "friendly" game of Ultimate Frisbee. I have to admit the coaches could hang pretty well with the players! (Although I am sure the players will deny that!) Rules I have learned to live by!

Living with all boys (five to be exact!) has been an amazing experience! Both wonderfully rewarding and sometimes incredibly frustrating! But if you learn to laugh through the hard parts it makes it all worth while! Here are some very true rules you need to adopt if you are going to survive in "boy world"! (And don't let the word "man" fool you...they are all little boys at heart!)

The Man Rules

Finally , the guys' side of the story.
( I must admit, it's pretty good.)
We always hear " the rules"
From the female side.....
Now here are the rules from the male side.
These are their rules!
Please note.. these are all numbered "1 "
ON PURPOSE!

1.. Men are NOT mind readers.
( FIRST & FOREMOST RULE)

1.. Learn to work the toilet seat.
You're a big girl. If it's up, put it down.
We need it up, you need it down.
You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down.

1. Sunday sports, It's like the full moon
or the changing of the tides.
Let it be.

1. Crying is blackmail.

1. Ask for what you want.
Let us be clear on this one:
Subtle hints do not work!
Strong hints do not work!
Obvious hints do not work!
Just say it!

1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question.

1. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. That's what we do.
Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.

1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument.
In fact, all comments become Null and void after 7 Days.

1. If you think you're fat, you probably are.
Don't ask us.

1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the other one

1. You can either ask us to do something
Or tell us how you want it done.
Not both.
If you already know best how to do it , just do it yourself.

1. Whenever possible, Please say whatever you have to say during commercials..

1. Christopher Columbus did NOT need directions and neither do we.

1. ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings.
Peach, for example, is a fruit, not A color. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is..

1. If it itches, it will be scratched.
We do that.

1. If we ask what is wrong and you say "nothing," We will act like nothing's wrong..
We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle..

1. If you ask a question you don't want an answer to, Expect an answer you don't want to hear.

1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine... Really .

1. Don't ask us what we're thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as Football
or Basketball!

1. You have enough clothes.

1. You have too many shoes.

1.. I am in shape. Round IS a shape!

But did you know men really don't mind that? It's like camping.

You may have already read this before, but it is just so funny and so true I just had to share it with you!

Football Weather?

Grant's team had two games rescheduled for this Sunday afternoon due to the rain outs of the past few weeks...and what happened? Today...more rain! Just enough to be wet - and cold - but not enough to cancel the first game. Unfortunately, the game score was as dreary as the weather. The colts took one on the chin, losing 0 - 24! Oh yeah. But somehow, boys can manage to have fun. Whatever the weather!

How many months does it take to stuff a duck?!

Apparently eight! But it was definitely worth the wait! Clint had gone duck hunting back in January for his birthday, and shot one right out of the sky! So proud was I, that I wrapped this yucky, wet, dead bird up in newspaper and stuck him in my freezer until I could find a taxidermist to take care of him. Little did I know how beautiful he would turn out! He really is so pretty! And so cool, that I have already hung him downstairs, so we can all look at him! Now Clint, and I and Garrett have all been on-line working on passing our Hunter's Safety course - and then some class we have to go to - so we can hit the woods! And Clint has had me out in the yard with his BB gun teaching me how to shoot. (No pictures of that! I am still working on hitting the fence, not even close to the can sitting on top of it! But I am getting better!) Forest creatures beware!

Saturday Double Header!

Oh...did I say Garrett was injured?! Hmmmmmm...my bad! Guess the injury only required missing practice...not actual game time! And when I "cautiously" inquired if him playing in two games was a good idea, both fathers and coaches alike looked at me as if I were speaking in a foreign language! So...don't look at me...I just take the pictures! And cheer, very loudly, as Garrett and the Colts won two more games today! And apparently, he was not in any pain as he had two amazing games...scoring several touchdowns - one touchdown wearing only one shoe! - and took a turn at quarterback and threw a touchdown pass to the starting QB! Crazy! Of course, none of this he would be able to do without the help of great and equally talented team mates! All in all, it was an absolutely beautiful day! GO COLTS! and go #12!

Air Soft Wars!

What Garrett and his band of bad boys do in their "spare time"! The weapons are getting bigger, so we (meaning me!) have decided we need better head gear than just a pair of goggles! I wouldn't venture out in the woods unarmed when this group is nearby. They show no mercy! (The only reason they let me by without being sniped at is because they have named me team photographer!) I have learned to "drop and roll" though, as they have terrible aim! And don't let the title "air soft" fool you! There is nothing soft about getting pegged with one of those bullets! Oh, the joys of having boys!

Psalm 23

Ever notice how sometimes different things you are doing will bring certain scriptures to mind? Well, today must have been a day for verses from Psalm 23. This morning as I was walking around the lake, the weather was incredible, the deer were everywhere, and the forest was so peaceful that I couldn't help thinking of the verse..."He leads me by still waters...he restores my soul..." It seemed so appropriate.

Yet by this afternoon, as I was walking through the destruction that my boys call their bedrooms, another verse a little farther down in the chapter came to mind. "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death!..." And that too seemed very appropriate!

If you live close enough, or even if you live far - we can fit you in a bedroom somewhere! - you have to put Lipscomb Basketball on your calendars this fall! This years team is going to be so exciting to watch, with really talented athletes and even better guys! Team chemistry is at an all time high, and everyone is looking forward to big things happening. I know even Scott is starting to get excited about how he sees this years team coming together. The players are working hard pre-season on conditioning, and they have created a really cool video to introduce you to some of them. Check it out! Lipscomb Colts improve their record to 4 - 1 with a win over St. Paul!

We don't usually play on Thursday's, but since the Colt's had a "bye" this weekend, it seems our coaches just couldn't live through a week without football, and they quickly added a new game to our schedule. So we have good news, and bad news. The good news is WE WON! And my Garrett scored two of the three touchdowns! Which is really cool! The bad news is he fell on an already injured knee and burst his bursa sack and his whole knee filled with fluid...ew! (For all you true football fans, this is the same injury that Peyton Manning had last year.) So by this morning, (Monday - since our motto around here is "suck it up", and no one would let me run him to the doctor over the weekend!) I did what all moms of million dollar athletes do, and took him to see Dr. Elrod - official doctor of the Tennessee Titans! Bad news...missing a week of practice, and a round of antibiotic cream to avoid infection. Good news...while we were there 5 Titans players came in to get their physicals, so Garrett got autographs and a glove and towel just used in the game against the Jets! You have to know for an aspiring 11 year old football player, this was worth the injury!

Nothing But Fun Day

Fall at Lipscomb Elementary is not complete without a day of "Nuthin But Fun"...their annual "fair" day. Filled with painted faces and cotton candy and well...fun! Garrett came back from Middle school to join in, not yet "too cool" to participate! (Then we were off to the High School field to watch the football game. It was "camo" night...this should explain Garrett's outfit!)

With a new season, I figured I would give my blog a new look...kinda like spring cleaning...only without actually having to use a vacuum! Now if I could just apply this same principle to my house! (Laurie! Don't say a word!)

Bloggity, Bloggity, Blog!

OK...I am thinking maybe I have gotten in over my head when I had this great idea to do a blog! One was great!...then a team baseball blog seemed cool!...And now Garrett and Grant are playing football and are equally convinced they both need a blog for their football teams! Which is so much fun, and I am loving doing it! And you really have to check out both football teams (links to these are in the right hand column), because they have been having a blast and the boys are all so fun to take pictures of....BUT...if anyone mentions BASKETBALL blogs...I am outta here!!

Garrett and the 5th grade Colts won again this past Saturday, improving their record to 3 - 1!

Grant and his 3rd grade team didn't get to have their first "official" game Saturday due to rain, but they did win their Jamboree game the weekend before that!

Homecoming at Father Ryan

Tonight we went to watch one of Carter's best friends, Jackson Coursey, play football at his senior year Homecoming game. Jackson's school just got a brand new football stadium which is absolutely awesome! First time his school has had their own football field so it was a big event. I only had my little digital camera with me, so the pictures aren't that great...but isn't it cool what 5 million dollars can get you!

Girl Time!

Since I don't have any little girls of my own, Stephanie so graciously lets me borrow her precious Ruby from time to time! Obviously I'm not very good with the girl thing - I seemed to have gotten more polish on our fingers than I did on her nails! Oops! Oh well, she was definitely a good sport about it! (We were suppose to be watching the girls volleyball game! Sorry, Brandon!)

Walking at Radnor Lake

Since the boys have been back at school, my friend Suzanne and I have been walking every morning at Radnor Lake. We are up to 4.5 miles a day, which includes both ridges on either side, and are quite proud of ourselves! We are true "hiker chicks" now! Just kidding! But we are loving the walk and see tons of deer...usually just standing in the middle of the paths. We have also seen turtles, turkeys, three otters swimming by the shore, and one bobcat! We are kinda nervous about maybe running into a coyote, but we keep telling ourselves they only come out at night! Although - that would make a cool story about how we escaped from a predator!

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

I guess this was our final farewell to summer as we spent the weekend hanging out at the lake and at the pool...and the cool weather kindly disappeared for a couple days to make jumping in the water feel great! (I'm thinking pretty soon I am gonna be needing a lake house of my own!) This weekend our friends the Temples included us in their lake fun - complete with fast boats, jet skis and lots of laughs!

And Labor Day Weekend would not be complete without a trip to our local pool for one last chance to see if the boys could break their necks flipping off the diving board! (Clint couldn't be here with us for this picture session as he officially has "girl fever" and was spending his day at another pool with a better view!)

The rest of August!

Why is it that the beginning of a school year always adds about a hundred things to your "to do" list?! All the boys were officially in school - for a full day - on Monday, August 17th. Which means I have been busy buying books, school supplies, new uniforms, backpacks, you name it, they seem to need it! And the beginning weeks of school would not be complete with out "Meet the Teacher" nights. High School, Middle School and Elementary - all of which Scott graciously considers it MY privilege to attend! This year I am a third grade room mom - so be expecting lots of pictures from parties, field trips, and any other cool thing we can come up with to do! I am down to my last two years in Elementary school!

Garrett and Grant are both playing football this fall. All the exciting scenes from these two seasons will be captured on their own blogs (which you can find the links to in the right hand column) but since I hate to flood tons of my own boys pictures on the Team site, I of course will have to showcase their individual shots here! Garrett has already had his first game. They didn't come out with a victory, but they sure looked good in their uniforms! Since I am also the 5th grade Football Team mom responsible for acquiring these uniforms, I am especially proud! You have no idea how hard it is to get 30 boys in all the right sizes!

I am still spending alot of time at the doctor with Carter for his back (two herniated discs) which seem to be taking an eternity to heal - so continue to remember him in your prayers. We are trying therapy, chiropractors, steroid injections, and drugs - all in the hopes of avoiding surgery. If you hear of any new path we haven't tried let me know!

Fall weather seems to be here in Nashville - at least for the last couple days - and I love it!
